Circling the globe twice during her extended Sticky & Sweet Tour isn’t enough for Madonna. The Hard Candy singer isn’t content with music and modeling, and has decided to resume her stalled acting career.
You may remember that in 1996, Madonna played Eva Peron in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita. While the film was successful, her follow-ups — The Next Best Thing and Swept Away — were not.
The singer is planning to come back to the silver screen as Wallis Simpson, the American woman who had an affair with Britain’s King Edward VIII. The king abdicated the throne in 1936 so he could marry her. According to The Sun’s source, Madonna is as excited to play Simpson as she was to play Peron:
“Madonna said she is fascinated about this American commoner who refused to conform or offer explanations for her tangled love life… It was all systems go until the divorce, when everything was put on the back-burner. When things in her life settle down this year, she’s keen to get things going again.”
Does this sound like a film you’d want to see?
