Poor Andre 3000. The Outkast singer debuted a line of men’s clothing last September called Benjamin Bixby, but the economy has apparently decided to kill that dream. The company’s profits have gone down the tubes, and the 70 pieces are being sold at huge discounts to try to raise some money.
While Benjamin Bixby isn’t dead yet, who knows how much longer it’ll be around?
Eminem doesn’t think he’ll have a lot of competition when he releases his new album, Relapse, because the current offerings are “crap.”
Okay, he doesn’t call it all crap. In an interview with BBC radio, Eminem clarifies, “I don’t mean everything about rap is crap. I just the majority of it. Rap in general.”
He does have some positive things to say about T.I. and Andre 3000: “I think I.I.’s new album is great and I’ve been pumping that for the last two weeks every day in my car aside from my own stuff as I record it. Andre 3000 is also incredible.”
If Eminem is going out calling the majority of his competition crap, then he’d better have something really fabulous ready for the public.
Andre 3000 rhymes even when he doesn’t mean to. When speaking about his lack of jewelry — not so typical in the hip-hop world — he says, “You can keep your bling. It’s not my thing.”
The stuff he wears onstage is all fake and meant to create an image, he says, but the only thing he wears on his own time is much more meaningful: “I only actually own one piece of jewelry, and that’s a Native American beaded necklace that I wear all the time. I bought it years ago, because my family has Native American roots — I’m part African, part Native American.”
It was nearly impossible to find a picture of Andre wearing the necklace, since he usually keeps it tucked under his shirt. Here he is in 2005 with his only piece of jewelry.
