Hollywood is known for glamorizing May-December relationships in film… but only if the May is female and the December is male. There are few examples of the opposite.
Andie MacDowell says that’s changing. Although Faye Dunaway complained last year about the gender and age-based discrimination faced by older female actresses, Andie says things are improving:
“How do I think the industry’s changed? Films have changed a lot. I think women are finally able to get older and be sexy just like men. So I’m really enjoying that part — that’s my evolution. I think sometimes we seem to obsess on negativity. I think role models exist but they usually don’t get the light because people like scandal.”
I love Andie MacDowell. But I don’t think the roles in which “women are finally able to get older and be sexy” should consist solely of those promoting age resisting beauty treatments.
